GOD-SHAPED GAP, GOD-SHAPED HEART

A God-shaped gap exists in all of us. What we fill it with will determine who we are and how satisfied we are with life.

Our inadequacies reveal our need for God.

We realize that there is a gap between who we are and who we want to be. It's a God-shaped gap, and it was placed there by Him. It's a worship gap that can only be filled by true worship.

Forgetting who God is, we desperately try to fill that gap with idols and addictions. We think we're worshipping Him, but we're not; because God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Everyone worships, they just aren't necessarily worshipping God. Everyone tries to fill their God-shaped gap, they just aren't necessarily filling it with Him. Thus, we become addicts and idolators.

"Walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh."

"God is Spirit, and they who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."

Everything is an act of worship: work, play, exercise, rest, eating, my relationships, how I handle my finances, what I watch, what I read, who I vote for are all acts of worship.

How will I worship God today? How will I seek to fill my God-shaped gap? What will I fill it with: true worship, or something else? Will I walk by the Spirit, or by my flesh?

Every choice I make is a choice to honor Him or to honor myself. Will I worship Him in my work, or will I worship the idol of success? Will I give in to Him, or will I give in to my addictions today?

How will I use my time? Who will be the focus of how I spend it? Who will be honored by how I spend it? Who - or, what - will be worshipped?

There's only one way to fill that God-shaped gap.

We hunger for God. He placed that hunger there. Nothing satisfies that hunger but He.

When we try to satisfy that hunger with something else, we end up still hungry. Whatever we think will fill it - sex, money, food, affection, success, fame; even if we had all the best-looking men or women, all the money, all the food, all the affection, all the success, all the fame - it won't be enough.

Because there's only one thing that will fill that hunger - God.

"Whom have I in heaven but You, and there's nothing I desire on earth except You." - Ps. 73:25

There's no food for my soul but You. You satisfy me. You fill me and fulfill me. You are the Bread of Life, the Fountain of Living Waters. Only You can satisfy.
